Breitling Emergency 2

“WARNING: Use Only In Case of Real Emergency”. These words are engraved on the caseback of the new Breitling Emergency 2 ($15,000), and you’d better take heed. Pull out the antenna to impress your buddies at your backyard barbecue and two things will happen: (1) a helicopter will land on your patio, and (2) you’ll pay an unpleasant fine for setting off a false search and rescue mission.

The Emergency 2 is actually classified as a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) that just happens to have a thermocompensated, chronometer-certifed SuperQuartz movement that tells the time within an accuracy range of 10 seconds per year. While the PLB transmits SOS signals to the land- and sea-based 121.5MHz frequency (that one’s been around for a while), it also adds a more powerful 406MHz transmitter that alerts the network of COSPAS-SARSAT satellites circling the earth of your location (that one hasn’t been around so long). In other words, Breitling’s got you covered.

It also costs $15,000 and is 51 millimeters in diameter. Not many weekend warriors will be strapping it on — this big Breitling is for the guy who climbs Denali as a way to wind down from a solo circumnavigation. While other watches make a lot of claims, this one can actually save your life. Case closed.

Ulysse Nardin Limited Edition Game of Thrones Watch

Swiss manufacturer, Ulysse Nardin has teamed up with HBO to create “The Night’s Watch”, a timepiece inspired by drama television series Game of Thrones. Based on “Black Sea” rugged diving chronograph, “The Night’s Watch” features a 45.8mm stainless steel case coated with matte black rubber, sapphire crystal caseback, while the strap features the phrases “The Night’s Watch” and “I am the Sword in the Darkness”.

“We are thrilled to be teaming up with HBO to create a unique product inspired by one of their most popular dramas, and we are excited to unveil our collaboration,” said Nelson Lucero, vice president of sales and marketing for Ulysse Nardin. “We feel the watch truly captures the essence of precision and the fortitude of the Night’s Watch.”

Priced at $10,500, only 25 pieces will be produced, and they’re only available in two stores in New York: Cellini Jewelers and the HBO store

Panerai Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Titanio

Panerai has been involved in the sport of yacht racing since 2005, when it became sponsor of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. So it was probably inevitable that the brand, best known for its distinctive divers’ watches, would eventually release a watch tailored toward yachtsmen. That timepiece, which contains a brand-new Panerai movement and carries the reference number PAM00526, makes its debut this year.

The watch’s full name, as with most Panerais, is a mouthful — Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Titanio. It is the first to contain the automatic Caliber P.9100/R (“R” presumably for “regatta”), which is based on the existing Caliber P.9100, but adds a new regatta countdown function, specifically intended for timing yacht racing starts, to the base movement’s flyback chronograph and three-day power reserve.

German watchmaker Sinn Watches was founded in 1961 by then-pilot and aviation instructor, Helmut Sinn. This same aeronautical ethos has carried the brand over the past few decades playing a major role into the aesthetic and function of its timepieces. The latest watch debut from Sinn arrives in the form of the Sinn Model 104 St Sa. With its case constructed from solid stainless steel and measuring in at 41mm, the watch boasts a captive pilot bezel with minute ratcheting, a sapphire crystal glass case, and a transparent case back made of sapphire crystal glass that is anti-reflective on the interior. It also features an automatic 26-jewel movement, tonal black day-date functions on the matte black face and indices, and hour, minute and second hands coated with luminescent color.

TAG Heuer – Monaco Calibre 12 Automatic Chronograph ACM Limited Edition Watch

Ahead of Formula One‘s most historical racing event, the 71st running of Monaco Grand Prix, luxury watch maker TAG Heuer will be marking the occasion with the Monaco Calibre 12 Automatic Chronograph Automobile Club de Monaco Limited Edition Watch. Powered by TAG Heuer’s Calibre 12 chronograph movement and housed within a titanium carbide coated case, the black dial timepiece includes an anti-scratch sapphire crystal upfront with a similar arrangement as the watch’s caseback so you can observe the Calibre 12 movement in action. Plated with rhodium and tipped with white luminescent, the hands and indexes present a striking contrast against the black backdrop. To truly “round-off” the racing design, the watch comes with a black perforated leather strap with orange “Sahara” lining, a nod to the classic driving gloves. Similar to other TAG Heuer Monaco models in the past, the Monaco Calibre 12 Automatic Chronograph ACM Watch will be limited to a production run of 225 units, at a price of $8,200 USD for each.

The Clifton is a new name for Baume & Mercier but one that, like the Capeland, looks back for inspiration. Anyone watching the TV, music and fashion worlds knows that nostalgia is in, and this is nowhere more evident than in the watch world. Everyone from Jaeger-LeCoultre to J. Crew has a watch that conjures up a golden age, using “aged” luminescent paint to nylon straps and acrylic crystals. With watches, “retro” makes sense. After all, timepieces, especially mechanical ones, are anachronistic objects; the choice to wear one is more about a respect for traditional craftsmanship, technology and aesthetics than it is about telling time. This is nowhere more evident than in the Clifton Complete Calendar ($4,900). If you squint or see it from a distance, this could be a handwound triple date from the 1950s.
