Barry McGee “Drawing from the Street” Exhibition @ ICA Boston

Barry McGee‘s body of work has been the subject of high praise, leading to recent exhibitions in both Fort Worth, Texas and presently, in Boston. McGee’s most recent show is up in the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, which showcases a vast array of the California-born artist’s paintings, sculptures and mixed media work. Visitors will encounter a heavy animation influence, installations that frequently reference graffiti through spray paint cans, and rich, detailed patterning throughout.

HORFEE x Case Studyo 'Snake Gun' Sculpture

Having worked with the likes of Steven Harrington and Parra in the past, Case Studyo presents its latest collaboration with Parisian artist HORFEE dubbed Snake Gun. As the name would suggest, the sculpture depicts an overarching battle between two entities – made in white porcelain with hand-painted black details. The sculpture is limited to nine pieces with each coming in a customized wooden box painted and signed by the artist.

Anthony Lister “Unslung Heroes” Mural @ London

Anthony Lister, consistently hailed as “Australia’s best contemporary artist,” will simultaneously exhibit next weekend at both Lazarides gallery locations in London & Newcastle. Unslung Heroes–also called the ‘Party Life Series’–features the portraits of some hip party revelers rendered in Lister’s signature loose street style. Aspiring to combine the lowbrow with the high, Lister has also taken to the streets and created a series of murals in similar black, red and white palette leading up to the show. The exhibitions will run from November 16 to December 29, with a private viewing held on November 15.

Studio Baag is a Milano/Italy based design studio that created the ‘Skull Lamp’. The table lamp is made of raw materials such as concrete and copper. A dim light illuminates the sculpture, highlighting the quiet existence of the always present significant symbolism of the skull. Also you don’t have to see such a deep meaning in it if you wish to. Zinedine Zidane Headbutt Statue by Adel Abdessemed

The piece is called ‘Coup De Tête’ by Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed and is a sixteen foot-high bronze statue portraying the French soccer player Zinedine Zidane’s head-butting incident against Italian Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final. I strongly believe anyone who watched that game will probably never forget that image. The oversized statue has now been placed in front of the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The public sculpture has been installed to accompany the artist’s solo show at the institution running from October 3rd, 2012 to January 7th, 2013.

The exhibition organizer Alain Michaud says: ‘The statue goes against the tradition of making statues in honour of certain victories. It is an ode to defeat.‘
